Speyer: Guide
Speyer är en stad i den Tyskland|tyska Tysklands förbundsländer|delstaten Rheinland-Pfalz. Staden ligger vid floden Rhen och har ca 50 000 invånare. Speyer var en betydelsefull stad under medeltiden och är känd för sin domkyrka (se Speyers domkyrka), som är ett världsarv.
Utom domkyrkan finns även ett känt teknikmuseum och den tyska högskolan för administrativa vetenskaper (Deutsche Hochschule für Verwaltungswissenschaften) i staden.
Historia
10 f.Kr. började man att bygga det första romerska militärlägret "Noviomagus" i staden, men det finns även spår av tidigare keltiska bosättningar.
346 nämndes för första gången en biskop i staden.
496/506 användes namnet Spira för första gången.
Under 1000-talet spred sig speyerska mynt till och med till Färöarna.
1030 började kejsar Konrad II att bygga domkyrkan.
1294 förlorade biskopen sin makt, och Speyer blev en fri riksstad (Reichsstadt).
1527-1689 låg rikskammardomstolen (Reichskammargericht) i staden.
1689 besattes staden för kort tid av Frankrike|franska trupper och förstördes nästan fullständigt.
1792 erövrade franska trupper staden igen, som då tillhörde Frankrike till 1814.
1816 blev Speyer huvudstad i Pfalz som då tillhörde Bayern.
1933 byggdes den första bron över floden Rhen.
1990 firade staden sitt 2000-årsjubileum där bl.a. presidenterna George H. W. Bush|George Bush (USA) och Michail Gorbatjov (Sovjetunionen) deltog.
