Saarbrücken: Guide
Saarbrücken är huvudstad i delstaten Saarland i västra Tyskland. Den har ca 182 000 invånare (2002) och är belägen i floden Saars dalgång. Närmaste större stad är Trier, som är belägen där Saar flyter samman med Mosel.
Inom utbildningssektorn är staden väl försedd med Universität des Saarlandes och fem specialinriktade högskolor för avbildande konst, musik, bergsbyggnad, socialt arbete samt teknik och ekonomi.
Saarbrücken är en järnvägsknutpunkt omedelbart vid gränsen till Frankrike och ett ovanligt stort antal motorvägsanlutningar finns i omedelbar närhet av staden. A6 = E50 går österut till Nürnberg och västerut till Paris. A1 går norrut via Köln till Hamburg och Puttgarden. A623 går i nordostlig riktning för anslutning till A8 = E52 österut mot München och Salzburg. Staden har alltså utmärkta kommunikationsmöjligheter på marknivå.
