Regensburg: Guide
Regensburg är en stad i den östra delen av den Tyskland|tyska Tysklands förbundsländer|delstaten Bayern med omkring 150 000 invånare (2005). Staden ligger omkring 90 kilometer sydost om Nürnberg och omkring 100 kilometer nordost om München. Floden Donau rinner genom staden. Motorvägarna A3 och A93 korsar varandra i staden.
Regensburg är en av de äldsta städerna i Tyskland. I skriftliga källor nämns platsen som ett romerskt kastell omkring år 80. Stadens historiska stadskärna är fortfarande i stort sett intakt eftersom inga egentliga bombangrepp genomfördes mot själva staden. Däremot anfölls Messerschmitt-verken strax utanför staden med stor kraft.
Efter kriget har Regensburg långsamt vaknat ur sin sömn. Till detta har bidragit grundläggandet av universitetet 1965, fackhögskolan 1971, iordningställandet av en ny hamn – Östhamnen 1960 – och färdigställandet av Main-Donau-kanalen 1978. 1986 startade BMW tillverkning av sin BMW 3-serie|3-serie i Regensburg. Fabriken sysselsättter 10 000.
