Merseburg, stad i Sachsen-Anhalt, Tyskland, vid Saale, 25 kilometer väster om Leipzig. Merseburg var under tidig medeltid en av Tysklands viktigaste städer, blev biskopssäte 968. Vilket indrogs 981, men återupprättades 1004. Vid 1500-talets mitt sekulariserades stiftet och tillföll kurfurstendömet Sachsen. 1815 blev Merseburg en del av Preussen.
