Halle an der Saale: Guide

Halle an der Saale är den tyska delstaten Sachsen-Anhalts största stad, belägen vid floden Saale. Den ligger i delstatens sydligaste del, cirka 35 kilometer från Leipzig.

Staden var under DDR-perioden präglad av den kemiindustri som fanns runt om den. Sedan återföreningen av de båda tyska staterna 1990 har stadsledningen mera inriktat sig på teknologiorienterade verksamheter, multimedia och livsmedel. I Halle finns för övrigt Tysklands äldsta chokladfabrik.

Sedan återföreningen har invånarantalet sjunkit på grund av utflyttning till väst, men utflyttningstakten har minskat starkt och även inflyttning har skett.

Idrott

Under DDR-tiden spelade Chemie Halle i högsta fotbollsligan. Klubben heter idag Hallescher FC.
