Zermatt: Guide
Zermatt är en av de mest klassiska skidorterna i Alperna. Byn ligger på drygt 1 620 meters höjd och omgärdas av flera toppar över 4 000 meter. Bland dessa finner man Monte Rosa (drygt 4 600 m.ö.h.), Italiens (eller Schweiz, en gränsfråga) högsta och Alpernas näst högsta berg samt Matterhorn (4 478 m.ö.h) som har kallats världens vackraste berg och att finns avbildat på Toblerone-förpackningar. Skidåkningen är mycket bra och man kan åka på 3 800 meters höjd vilket är den högsta höjden i Europa. Om man så vill kan man åka ner till den italienska grannbyn Cervinia via skidor. Tack vare den höga höjden kan man åka skidor året runt.
Zermatt har en permanent befolkning på cirka 5 000 invånare men antalet människor som vistas i byn är oftast högre än så. 6 500 hotelbäddar finns tillgängliga.
