Bukarest: Guide
Bukarest (på /bu.ku'reʃtʲ/)) är Rumäniens huvudstad och det industriella, kulturella och kommersiella centret i landet. Staden är belägen i sydöstra Rumänien vid floden Dâmboviţa och har enligt 2002 års folkräkning 1 921 751 invånare, InfoTravel Romania (rumänska), i storstadsområdet bor omkring 2,5 miljoner invånare. Staden har en areal på omkring 228 km².
Staden tjänas av den internationella flygplatsen Henri Coandă (alternativt Otopeni). I Bukarest ligger Rumäniens parlament och regeringsbyggnader.
Staden nämns för första gången 1459 och blev huvudstad i Rumänien 1862. Sedan dess har den förändrats på olika sätt och blivit Rumäniens massmediala och kulturella centrum. Stadens arkitektur varierar mellan historiska, kommunistiska och moderna byggnader vilket reflekterar dess varierade historia. Staden är ekonomiskt sett Rumäniens rikastePriceWaterhouseCoopers Global och är ett av dess huvudsakliga industriella centrum. Staden hyser även ett stort antal utbildningsinstitutioner.
